Vegetable tanned leather is a natural animal product, and as such, will have some variances in thickness, texture, and color from hide to hide. Just like human skin, all cow hide is unique from animal to animal and may have slight blemishes, spots and wrinkle marks.
We source our leather from Wickett & Craig – widely considered to be one of the best leather tanneries in the US. Vegetable tanning is a traditional process of tanning the raw animal hide with tannins derived from tree bark instead of the more “modern” way of tanning which uses harsh, toxic chemicals. Each Wickett & Craig hide is perfected in a labor-intensive, natural, eco-friendly process that produces superior leather. The leather will darken as it ages and will develop a rich patina with use and exposure to sunlight and natural oils from your skin.
